Haysville Middle School Level Course Catalogue

4099 1     6-8 ESL (HWMS) ESL is designed to improve the students' English skills in four domains: reading, writing, speaking
                                                 and listening. Main topics include reading and test-taking skills, grammar, pronunciation, writing,
                                                 and expository text. The course used AR materials to increase students' reading levels and
                                                 vocabulary. The goal is for students to function independently and successfully in regular academic
                                                 courses.

4617 .5    8    FACS I     This course helps students develop relationship skills, teachers basic sewing, nutrition, and cooking

4706 .5         (HMS/HWMS) skills. Sewing projects include a pillow and an apron. Students will cook several dishes, including

                           snacks, breakfast, and dinner items. There will be extra cost due to classroom materials.

           8 Intro to HS This course is designed to give students a deeper understanding of the concepts of FACS. It covers

                FACS       state standards required to build a strong foundation for students who want to take follow-up

                (HMS/HWMS) courses at the high school level. There are also sewing projects and cooking labs built into the

                           course. Prereq is FACS I. There will be extra cost due to classroom materials.

           6    Physical   This course is designed to teach 6th grade students the benefits of leading a healthy lifestyle.

                Education 6 Students will understand and demonstrate the 5 healthy related components of physical education.

                (HMS/HWMS) Students will engage in various individual and team activities designed to enhance physical fitness,

                           team work, respect towards others and social behaviors in a physical setting.

                Training   physical training. Students will engage in activities that involve weightlifting, cardiovascular

                (HWMS)     training, speed training and agility training. The class focus is safety and the use of proper

                           technique when training. Students will use the training principles used in Beginning PT to enhance

                           them physically throughout the semester.
