District Mandt Trainer: Karon Waters
The Mandt System is a systematic training program designed to de-escalate yourself and other people when you or they have difficulty managing behavior. The Mandt System believes all people have the right to be treated with dignity and respect. Mandt techniques are implemented for behavioral modification intervention. Proactive interaction is practiced to eliminate unnecessary conflicts. The students are taught appropriate skills in dealing with their emotions prior to, during, and after a challenging situation. The Mandt goal is not to repress or destroy emotions but to accept the feelings and direct them to constructive ends.
The Mandt System is utilized by staff throughout the district when working with students with disabilities. This training supports the district belief that all individuals should be seen as people first and that a person has the right to a personal identity, the right to normalization, and the right to the least restrictive and most appropriate environment.
The Mandt System training is provided to USD 261 employees yearly.
