
Assistive Technology Services include any service that directly assists an individual with a disability in the selection, acquisition, or use of an Assistive Technology devise.” (IDEA, Title 34 CFR, Se. 300.6)
If a student needs Assistive Technology (AT) to receive a free and appropriate public education (FAPE), the school must provide it at no cost to the parents. All children eligible to receive specially designed instruction through an IEP must be considered for assistive technology. The team must ask, “What is it we want the student to be able to do within his/her education program, that he/she isn’t able to because of his/her disability?”
