4316 1  6  Social Studies 6 The focus of 6th grade Social Studies is ancient civilizations of the world. Study with each unit

           (HMS/HWMS) includes geography, economics, physical systems, human-environment interaction, government,

                                        and climate. Unites of study are: Prehistory, Mesopotamia, Egypt, China, India, Greeks, Romans,

                                        Aztecs, Incas, Maya, Medieval Europe, and Japan.

4317 1  7  Social Studies 7 7th grade Social Studies focuses on geography and all that it encompasses. These topics include:
           (HMS/HWMS) physical geography, climate, econ, government, culture, and human environment interactions.

                               Regions we study include : Europe, Eurasia, Middle East, Africa, East Asia, South/Southeast Asia, and
                               Australia. We also study Kansas History, beginning with nomadic and sedentary tribes through Post
                               Civil War Kansas. This includes: early explorers, Indian Removal Act (1830), Kansas/Nebraska Act,
                               Bleeding Kansas, Populism and Reformers.

4318 1  8  Social Studies 8 8th Grade social studies encompasses the time period from George Washington's presidency to
           (HMS/HWMS) Reconstruction after the Civil War. The class focuses on the economic and social changes of the

                               United States during this time period.

4016 1  6  Language Arts Students will read a variety of text (poetry, short stories, novels, non-fiction) to improve
           6 comprehension skills. Also, students will write effectively for a variety of audience purposes and

4116 1  6  Science 6                    Sixth grade students will understand vocabulary and process of Scientific Inquiry. They will learn the
           (HMS/HWMS)                   parts of an atom and the basic use of the Periodic Table of Elements. During 6th grade, students will
                                        build and use different types of simple machines. They will learn how energy transfers between
                                        objects. Students will learn Newton's Three Laws of Motion and apply them to their daily lives.
