Description: This parenting program is designed to give you practical skills that can be used immediately! Would you like to feel more confident as a parent? Would you like to have more fun parenting? Would you like to feel more relaxed at the end of the day? If you answered yes to any of these questions, this class is for you.
Presenters: Linda Long and Lisa McKeown
Linda has a Bachelors of Science in Human Services/Psychology from Friends University. She has worked for Haysville USD 261 for 11 years first as the Support Services Coordinator at Haysville Alternative High School, and currently as the Support Services/ Homeless Coordinator at the district level. Linda is also the Marketing Coordinator for The Learning Center. Her experience and expertise is in communication and conflict resolution for families in crisis situations and working with adolescents. She completed the Advanced Love and Logic Instructor training in October 2006.
Lisa has received her Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education from Newman University. She taught in the elementary classroom for 16 years in grades 2-4. She completed her Masters of Education in Counseling at Wichita State University and has worked as a school counselor at Nelson Elementary in Haysville for the past 6 years. Lisa is the building coach for the newly implemented Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. She is committed to supporting staff and parents in promoting student success. She completed the Advanced Love and Logic Instructor training in October of 2006.

This course will provide the participant an opportunity
to learn and implement the collaborative inquiry cycle in
order to address actual data collected to analyze student
learning and as a method of continuous organizational
improvement.
Presenter: Dr. Diane Gross, Assistant Superintendent for Assessment& Data Analysis
Diane has served in public education for 25 years as a
secondary math teacher, a building principal, director of
secondary curriculum, and currently assistant superintendent.
She is currently President Elect of the Kansas Staff
Development Council, is a member of the National Staff
Development Council’s Academy Class of 2008, is a QPA
and NCA visiting team chair, and is involved with district
strategic planning and improvement efforts. Diane recently
earned her Doctorate degree from Wichita State
University.

Chris is a social studies teacher at Campus High School. Previously he worked in the classroom as a social studies teacher for eight years at Wichita Heights High School. He has a Bachelors of Science in Education and History from Wichita State University and is currently working on his Masters in School Leadership from Baker University. In addition to teaching history in the classroom, Chris teaches Government, Sociology, and Financial Management for eSchool in USD 259. He is a firm believer that using technology as a tool will greatly impact student learning and achievement.

Description: Each of us is a sensory being, processing information
in variety of ways. In a technological world full of
sensory input, each of us must be able to effectively
process that information and use it, much like a
computer processes information. Participants in this
workshop will receive a thorough over view of the
theory of sensory integration with explanation of how to
recognize sensory integration dysfunction in their
students. Upon completion of this course, participants
will be able to identify and explain the main senses and
our “hidden” senses. This will be a hands-on workshop
with tons of practical information that can be utilized
with students of any age and in any classroom.
Presenter: Kristin Freed
Kristin has a Bachelor of Science in Occupational
Therapy from Newman University. She is certified in
the administration of the Sensory Integration and
Praxis Test, which is a comprehensive program on
the theory of sensory integration. Kristin has worked
as an occupational therapist for USD 261 for 12 years
and has presented at state conferences in Kansas and
Missouri on this topic and others.

Description: This Process Parenting Seminar is designed to help you learn more about yourself and your child. Learn to speak your child’s language to understand and motivate them, and give them the kind of support they need. Understand how to deal with and redirect negative behaviors into positive behaviors. Parents will receive information about their own personality dynamics and predictable conflict dynamics. Process Parenting enhances and supports many contemporary parenting models and encourages a motivational approach for discipline and responsibility. Parents must complete a personality inventory online, by Wednesday, March 24th , 2010. Instructions for completion will be given at registration which will close on March 9th, 2010. If you do not have access to a computer, the inventory can be completed by appointment prior to March 24th at The Learning Center by calling Linda Long at 554-2331.

She has been a Master Teacher for Intel for the past 5 years and has a strong passion for technology integration.

Description: Participants will have opportunities during this ongoing workshop to develop and share lesson plans using current technology available to them. We will explore a variety of ways to integrate Promethean and Mimio boards wtihin whole group lessons, center activities and for accelerated learning or remediation. In addition, time will be allotted to search out online resources to further enhance learning and develop lesson plans related to the standards around these resources. The use of digital cameras to enhance learning will also be discussed. At the end of the six sessions you will have multiple lessons you can use to engage students using technology.
Presenter: Carla Heintz, Carla has a Bachelor's of Science in teaching Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten children with a handicapped emphasis from Iowa State University, a Master's degree in Special Education with a gifted emphasis from Wichita State University, and has completed the building level administrative certificate program through Newman University. She is currently the ECC Coordinator for Haysville. Prior to that, Carla was a teacher in the Wichita Public School system for 16 years. She has experience teaching Pre-K, Early Childhood Special Education, Kindergarten, and First Grade.

Description: During this workshop, participants will learn how to utilize blackboard as a classroom supplemental tool. The first half of the day will cover enrolling students, setting up blackboard, placing multimedia and posting assignments. In the afternoon we will expand on the morning session and include setting up and posting tests, using safe assign, how to use the grade program, and other software programs in conjunction with Blackboard. Participants should be able to set up and run Blackboard as a classroom supplemental after attending these sessions.

This academy will equip you with the tools you need to be a Teacher Leader or an Administrator in your district. Description: Would you be prepared to help a student or staff member until emergency help arrived in the case of a medical emergency? This training will help you do just that and possibly save a life! At the end of the session you will have a 2 year certification for Adult, Child, and Infant CPR through the American Heart Association and be confident in using the AED (Automatic External Defibrillator).
Presenters: Life Saver Learning has been providing safety training since 1990. President Michael Ferguson and his team of trainers provide training on a variety of topics including CPR, First Aid, Safety, and AED (Automatic External Defibrillators) and provide certification through the American Heart Association. Michael employs off-duty Firefighters, EMT's, and Paramedics who will help you feel confident in using life saving techniques.

It is not just a phone; it is technology that can be used with success to energize the classroom and engage students. Text messaging, photographs, video and emails can be an integral part of the secondary classroom. Participants will have the opportunity to understand how cell phones can be used in a classroom, view successful lessons and the products created, overcome challenges, and create lessons that can be implemented in their classroom.

Janelle is an Instructional Coach for Haysville USD 261. She has taught at the Haysville Middle School for 13 years. During that time she taught 6th, 7th, and 8th graders in the areas of Social Studies, Language Arts and Reading. Janelle loves technology and loved integrating it into her lessons.
