Teh administrators and staff at HWMS would like to welcome and encourage you to attend conferences. As parents, you will have the opportunity to meet and visit with your child's teachers about their classroom performance, achievements, goals and concerns. Students have set their goals and developed a plan of action to achieve these goals. Your child should have discussed their goals with you and are preparing in class to lead you through these conferences. Please report to your child's first hour class to pick up their progress report. Conference times are:
Monday, February 13: 5:00 - 8:00 PM
Wednesday, February 15: 3:00 - 6:00 PM
Thursday, February 16: 8:00 - 11:00 AM & 12:30 - 3:30 PM
It is time for our annual magazine sale fundraiser. Students sell magazines and the profits that HWMS receives are put into the Student Activity Fund. Proceeds from this fundraiser benefit the entire student population. The money raised will be used to promote school pride, honor students who are responsible school and community citizens, and a multitude of other student engaged activities. A "kickoff" assembly was held on Thurs., Feb. 2nd; sales will continue through Wed., Feb. 22nd. Please help our school by purchasing and/or renewing magazine subscriptions through this fundraiser. There are lots of incentives for students who participate; cash awards, unique gift items, electronics, and a limo lunch just to name a few. One magazine sold per student would meet our school goal of 600 magazines sold. Turn in dates are: Feb. 6th, 8th, 13th, 15th and 22nd. Thank you in advance for your support!
Starting in January, the enrollment process for the 2012-13 school year will begin. It is extremely important for parents to have a conversation with your child about their class selections.

Holidays are supposed to be a happy, joyful time, but for some kids and even adults it can be one of the most stressful times of the year. If your child seems sad, withdrawn, or irritable, maybe he/she could use some help finding new ways to resolve his/her issues. For more information about the services provided at Haysville West, contact Ms. Kahmann in the Counseling Office, or you can call Ken Johnson, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Youthville Family Consultation Service School-based Therapist direct at 207-1037. Students who attend school regularly are more successful, both academically and socially, than
those with many absences. We ask that you read the following information carefully so that
you will be aware of both district and state attendance requirements.
When a student is absent, his/her parents or guardians are required to telephone the
school (554-2370) on the day of the absence to verify their nonattendance. As an alternative,
the parent may send a note to the school on the day that the student returns. Any
absence not excused within this 24-hour period will be considered unexcused.
Students who arrive at school anytime after 7:45am must report to the office to sign in. Students
who are habitually late to school will lose their opportunity to be excused. Students who
have three consecutive unexcused absences or five days of un-excused absences in any
semester or seven unexcused school days in any school year, whichever occurs first, will be
considered not attending school as per Kansas Law 72-11139c. Students who are less than
13 years of age will be reported to Social and Rehabilitation Services. Students who are
more than 13 years old but less than 16 will be reported to the appropriate county or district
attorney.
Do you share custody of your child? To have a copy of your child’s report cards and monthly newsletters sent to an alternate address, please notify the school office in writing. Just request that we add your name to our secondary mailing list.
