HWMS Taking Applications for 'Team West'

Team WEST (We Excel Starting Today) is currently taking applications. This select group of 8th graders have to fill out an application, have an interview, and then be chosen. Strong academic foundation, responsible citizenship, positive leadership ability and teacher recommendation are all required to be a member of Team WEST. This group will help others with homework, with 6th grade orientation and mentor classmates on how to succeed socially, educationally, and emotionally. Any 7th grader who is interested in being a member of Team WEST their 8th grade year should listen to the daily bulletin announcements for when applications will be available.

Register Now for Haysville Boys and Girls After-School Program

Any students in grades 6-8 for the 2010-11 school year is eligible to attend our after-school program. The program includes tutoring, snacks, and recreational activities. All this for only $30 for the entire year. Hurry...space is limited to the first 120 participants. The program starts August 30 and meets Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 2:45 PM - 5:30 PM.

HWMS Band

The following students participated in the South Central Kansas Music Educators Association Middle School Honor Band at Andover Central High School: Madison Taylor -- alto saxophone, Colton VanNess -- tenor saxophone, Sierra Hoogendoorn -- bass clarinet, Katie Floyd -- clarinet, and Anna Rosendale -- percussion. The honor band consised of 120 students from the area of McPherson to Ark City and Kingman to Augusta. Students were selected by recommendation of director Jim Maxwell and the selection committee.

On November 14th, 15 HWMS eighth grade students partipated in the Pioneer League Honor Band in Ark City. Selected by director recommendation were: Betsy Burke -- oboe, Estrella Requena -- clarinet, Ryan Carlson -- clarinet, Kayla Shipman -- clarinet, Christian Livingston -- bass clarinett, Seth Hernandez -- trumpet, Ben Archibeque-- trumpet, Brett Werth -- trumpet, Chad Vaught -- trumpet, Derek Stoner -- trombone, Andrew Shock --trombone, Merrie Shaver -- percussion, Josh Woods -- percussion, and Hunter Emond -- percussion.

 

Gorilla Football Practice Begins

Any 7th or 8th grade boy interested in playing football for HWMS should be aware that practice will begin the week of August 17th. The following schedule will be followed that week:

August 17: 7:00 AM - 10:00 AM and 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM (No Activity bus)

August 18: 2:45 PM - 5:15 PM (Activity bus will run)

August 19: 2:45 Pm - 5:15 PM (Activity bus will run) (First Day of School for 7 & 8 grade)

All participants must have a physical on file before participating in practice.

 

Enrollment 2009-10

All current USD 261 students will use mail-in enrollment for the 2009-10 school year. Kindergarten and ECC sstudents who attend Kindergarten Round-Up in April will also enroll by mail. Enrollment packets will be mailed in early July and should be returned to the district office by July 24. All forms must be completed and returned in order to complete the enrollment process. Any outstanding fees should be paid prior to enrollment.

The district will conduct a one-day enrollment for students who are new to the Haysville School District on August 6th.
