MEET OUR THERAPY DOGS: Mocha and Lincoln

Mocha and LincolnHaysville West Middle School is priviledged to have two professional therapy dogs in their building.

What is a Therapy Dog? A professional therapy dog is a well trained and well mannered dog that visits a variety of settings to offer emothional support.

Why have a therapy dog at school? Research shows that petting a dog helps lower blood pressure, stress, and anxiety. Having a trained dog in the classroom helps to create a calmer environment that is more conducive to learning.

Best Buds - Mocha and Lincoln

Mocha is a chocolate Labrador Retriever. She is 5 years old and only weighs about 40 pounds.

Lincoln is a Alaskan Malamute. He is 1 1/2 years old. He loves belly rubs and FOOD.

The dogs are part of the Gamble family. Mr. and Mrs. Gamble are eighth grade teachers at HWMS.

Lincoln Is Now A Certified Search and Rescue Dog

Mrs. Gamble is proud to announce that HWMS‟s therapy dog, Lincoln, is now also a certified search and rescue dog. In the last couple of months Mr. Gamble and Mrs. Gamble have both completed the local testing requirements for Lincoln to be certified. He had to complete a 20 acre daytime search and a 40 acre night time search for a hidden “victim”. The Gambles, along with Lincoln, will now begin the process of getting Lincoln‟s national certification for search and rescue. For now, he could be called for any disaster or missing person search in the state of Kansas, but the goal is for him to be nationally certified. If you would like to see some pictures of Lincoln in action or find out more about the search and rescue group the Gambles belong to, feel free to check out the team website at k9sark.org.
