About Us
The mission of Haysville Middle School, in partnership with the greater community, is to challenge and empower all students to become lifelong learners and contributing citizens in our changing world.

Haysville Middle School is a sixth, seventh, and eighth grade attendance center with an enrollment of 569 students. The school colors are red and white and the mascot is the Hawk. HMS is a member of the Pioneer School League for activities.
The school day at HMS begins at 7:35 a.m. and ends at 2:40 p.m. The students attend eight classes a day. Seven of the classes are 45 minutes in length. The eighth class is 83 minutes in length and is used for lunch, Channel 1, Sustained Silent Reading, and study time. Sixth grade students are enrolled in the following classes: Math, Science, Social Studies, English, Reading, a rotation of Health/Physical Education/Life Skills, and a choice between Band, Orchestra, or a rotation of exploratory classes which include General Music / Art / Keyboarding. Seventh grade students are enrolled in Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, Mathematics, a rotation of Health/Spanish/Computer, and a minimum of 12-weeks of Reading. Elective courses include Band, Orchestra, Vocal Music, Art, Keyboarding, Physical Education, and General Music. Eighth grade students are enrolled in the following classes: Math, Science, Social Studies, English, a rotation of Careers/Kansas History/Elective Choice, Reading if the student's reading level is below grade level, and electives which include FACS, Art, Spanish, Physical Training, Band, Orchestra, Physical Education, and Vocal Music. Select students may also become Office and Media Center aides.
HOME OF THE HAWKS
Special academic programs offered at HMS during and after school include Autism, Emotional Disturbance, Mental Retardation, Multiple Disabilities, Orthopedic Impairment, Specific Learning Disabilities, Speech and Language Impairment, Gifted-Talented-and Creative, Study Bus, High Q, Spelling Bee, and Math Counts.
Competitive athletics are available to all seventh and eighth grade boys and girls. Boys may participate in football, basketball, wrestling, cross country, tennis and track. Girls' sports include volleyball, basketball, track, cross country, tennis and cheerleading.

The programs at HMS are provided by a full and part-time certified staff of 45. This includes one principal, twp assistant principals one of whom serves as the athletic director, two counselors, a school psychologist, a community resource liaison, and a school resource officer. Thirty-two percent of the staff have a master's degree or beyond. Thirty-eight of the staff members in the middle school have taught in U.S.D. #261 for five or fewer years. Nineteen staff members have five or fewer years of total teaching experience. Thirteen of the seventy-eight staff members have more than twenty-six years of total teaching experience. Forty-two classified staff supports the certified staff at Haysville Middle School, which includes paraprofessionals, library aids, and secretaries.
Parent Group
Haysville Middle School encourages parent involvement. There is an active parent group that normally meets at 6:15 P.M. on the third Monday of every month. Meetings are used to plan activities for students and to determine ways to support various school programs. All parents are encouraged to attend these meetings because many decisions are made that impact students in the Middle School.
