USD 261 to Host a Career Fair for Certified Staff
Haysville Schools will be conducting interviews of certified persons interested in being employed with USD 261. The Career Fair will take place at Haysville West Middle School on Saturday, February 11, from 10 AM - 2 PM. This fair is family friendly, so bring your children. USD 261 Employee Honored by KASP for Work In Her Field
The Kansas Association of School Psychologists (KASP) recently presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Dr. Marie Patterson, psychologist at Ruth Clark Elementary, at the annual KASP Conference in Manhattan.
Patterson has been an adjunct faculty member at Wichita State since 1993, where she continues to share her vast knowledge and rich experience with future school psychologists.
Patterson has been in the field of education for more than 40 years, 30 of those as a practicing school psychologist. She has made numerous contributions to the field of school psychology thoughout the years.
Kansas Honors Program Recognizes CHS Students
The Kansas University Alumni Association's Kansas
Honor Program has recognized 32 seniors at Campus
High School as Kansas Honor Students for
the 2011- 2012 school year.
The Kansas Honors Program recognizes and awards
high-school seniors for their academic achievements.
Each year KU alumni gather in more than 40 locations
across the state for an awards ceremony and honorary
dinner or reception.
These 32 students were honored at a Kansas Honors
Program ceremony and reception hosted by
the University of Kansas at Wichita State University
on November 7. All high-school seniors who rank academically in
the top 10 percent of their class were invited to attend as
guests of the Association with their parents, principals
and superintendents.
The Kansas Honors Program has been a KU tradition
since 1971. It is designed to promote academic
excellence in secondary education, to reward high
school seniors for their hard work and dedication, and
to support our Kansas communities.
In its inaugural year, the Kansas Honors Program
honored about 1,000 students in 16 countywide programs.
Today, the program honors approximately
3,500 students from 362 high schools in all 105 counties.
Each Kansas Honor Scholar receives a certificate
and a special edition of The American Heritage Dictionary,
and has a chance to qualify for a $4,000 scholarship
to KU.

VFW 6957 Ladies Auxiliary Makes Donation
For the second year, the Keever-Wire VFW Post 6957 Ladies Auxiliary gave each Haysville USD 261 Elementary School a check for $100 to be used at the school's descretion. The school administrators were very appreciative of the monetary donation.
Rex Pride Park Restoration
Prudential Dinning-Beard, Realtors were at Rex Elementary School bright and early on October 3 helping the school's fifth grade students restore Rex Pride Park located on the East side of the school. For the third year, students and Prudential employees prepared the area, planted flowers and bushes, pulled weeds, and distributed mulch. They also finished painting fitness games on the blacktop that the students use during recess. The Rex Pride Park project is organized by Rex Elementary's Communities In School Coordinator Shaye Ferguson. Thanks to all the donors and volunteers that make this project a success.
District Receives 34 Standard of Excellence Awards
The Kansas State Department of Education recently announced that Haysville USD 261 schools received 34 Standards of Excellence awards for test results during state assessments. The District received 27 Standards of Excellence for the 2009-10 school year and 23 awards for the 2008-2009 school year. USD 261 schools receiving Standard of Excellence awards were:

Bullying is the most common form of violence in schools. Please take some time to talk to your child about bullying and its implications. make them aware that it is not cool to be a bully or to be bullied. International Baccalaureate Diploma Program
Campus High School is pleased to announce that they are a candidate school for the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma program. Any student from throughout the Wichita metro area is eligible to enroll in the school and participate in the program. International Baccalaureate schools offer an integrated approach to college preparation that includes not only challenging coursework, but also develops a global perspective and awareness that will be critical to the success of students as they prepare for the changing and emerging careers of this century. Applications for USD 261's Child Nutrition Program will be available July 20th. Download an application here or complete an application at Food Services. Applications must be submitted to the Food Service Office at 132 Stewart in Haysville. Students who qualify for FREE meals are also eligible to have the Enrollment Base Fee waived.**

PAT Offers Services for Community Families
Parents As Teachers is a program for infants and toddlers of families in the USD 261 district. PAT is a free program that gives information and opportunities you can use to help your child develop social, intellectual, motor and language skills. SchoolReach, Our Communication Tool
USD 261 is utilizing SchoolReach to notify parents of news and announcements by telephone and email. This system gives us the ability to call thousands of numbers in a matter of seconds. You will receive a call from SchoolReach if school is cancelled for any reason and to notify you of school announcements. Some of the schools are using the program to make absentee calls. We want all families to be notified when necessary, therefore please notify your child's school when your telephone number or email address changes. Our system will call the home telephone number on file, if you do not have a home number, we will use the primary guardian's cell phone number. Please notify the office if you prefer to be called at another number, but only one per child.
