Elementary Summer Academies
Students who have been recommended by their teachers or who just want additional help in the areas of reading and math may participate in Reading & Math Academy this year. These classes will be taught in two sessions. The first session will be a review of the previous school year's work, and the second will be an introduction of new concepts for the upcoming year. The fee is $50 ($25 for students will reduced lunches/free for students on free lunch). Enrollment for Academies will be held in the Rex Elementary Main Office from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on May 5th, 6th, & 8th.

Summer Enrichment Academy
Students may also participate in Enrichment Academy where they will learn about taekwondo, digital photography, music, fairy tales, sports, art, science experiments, and much, much, more! These classes will be taught in both morning and afternoon sessions. The fee for three weeks of half-day sessions is $125. The fee for three weeks of all-day sessions is $230. The academy will be held at Rex Elementary, the first session is June 9 - 26 and the second session is July 7 - 17, Monday through Thursdays, no classes will be held on Fridays. The morning class will be from 8:30 a.m. - 11:45 a.m., the afternoon class begins at 12:15 p.m. and dismisses at 3:30 p.m. All day students may bring a sack lunch to enjoy between sessions; supervision will be provided. Transportation is provided for in-district students. Enrollment for Academies will be held in the Rex Elementary Main Office from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on May 5th, 6th, & 8th.

Summer 2008 ACT Preparation Class
This class is designed to help provide students who qualify for the Duke Talent Search Program with an opportunity to prepare to take the ACT. During this one-week long course, students will have the opportunity to take practice ACT tests, learn test-taking strategies, and receive instruction directed at their weaknesses as shown by the practice tests. This class will be held at The Learning Center, 150 Stewart, from July 21 - July 24. The session times are 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Tuition for this class is $125. To enroll in this class, your registration form and $25 deposit is due to the HMS office by June 1st. The remaining $100 of the tuition is due before the first day of class.

Summer 2008 PSAT Preparation Class
This class is designed to help students entering grades 9 - 11 perform better on the PSAT and ultimately the SAT; to prepare students for the National Merit Competition. Instruction will be provided by two instructors; students will take a pretest with three practice tests and six study sessions. This course consists of nine three-hour class sessions during the summer and fall. The session dates are July 14 - 17; August 9, 16, 23, 30 and September 27. The class times are 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Tuition for this class is $125. To enroll in this class, bring your registration form and $25 deposit to Debbie Coleman at the district office by June 1st. The remaining $100 of the tuition is due before the first day of class.

Call Em All

U.S.D. 261 will utilize the Call Em All Phone System to alert parents of school closings and other important information. This system has the capability to call thousands of numbers in minutes. In order for you to receive one of our messages we need to have an accurate home telephone number in our PowerSchool system. Please notify your child's school office to inform them when your home number changes.

Parents As Teachers Receive $2,000 Grant
The Haysville Parents As Teachers program was notified that they were selected for a $2,000 Traget Ready, Sit, Read grant. Monies fromt eh grant will be used to promote reading activities in Haysville PAT families.

Grant Funds Parent Involvement Activities
A $3,000 grant from the National Association of Elementary School Principals and the MetLife Foundation was awarded to Prairie Elementary to fund a Parent Resource Center and Family Night Activities at the school. Four family nights are planned throughout this school year. The first was held on October 9th. Activities include dinner and fun learning activities for parents and students. Transportation is provided for families needing it. Prairie Elementary was one of 30 schools nationwide to receive a grant. Congratulations to Prairie Elementary!



Campus High School
UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Campus High School began construction in October, 2006 on major renovations including halls between buidlings, a new library, commons/dining and kitchen, converting the old library into classrooms, constructing new art classrooms, restrooms and locker areas, providing ten additional general classrooms, a new support services area to improve security, larger classrooms for vocal music and band, renovating outdated classrooms and restrooms, upgrading electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems, replacing obsolete windows and renovating auditorium seating, lighting and sound system.

Exciting changes are happening in the Haysville School District thanks to the district voters, who approved a $49 million bond issue.

Haysville Early Childhood Program
Preschool classes for children who live in the Haysville School District and will be 4 years old by August 31 and meet enrollment criteria. The nine month preschool offers classes for children who meet At-Risk or Special Education guidelines.

Guidelines for Preschool Program Services
If one or more of the following statements describes your child then he or she is eligible to attend the Haysville Early Childhood Center:

  • Single parent family
  • One or both parents were under the age of 20 when the mother was pregnant with the child
  • Migrant family
  • Limited income
  • You receive assistance from SRS
  • One parent has not graduated from high school
  • A language other than English is spoken by the student
  • Child has delays in at least one area of development (such as motor, language, or academic concepts). This is determined during the Count Your Kid In screening.

Guidelines for Receiving Special Education Classroom Services
Do one or more of the following statements describe your child? If so, they may be eligible to attend the Haysville Early Childhood Center?

Your child has difficulty with:

  • physical development (walking, running climbing, etc.)
  • fine motor development (coloring, block building, feeding and eating)
  • basic preschool level knowledge (colors, counting, understanding simple directions)
  • speech (ability to ask and answer questions and be understood at a developmentally appropriate level)
  • diagnosed disability or condition impacting their ability to learn

All children must complete a Count Your Kid In Screening prior to enrollment. Screenings are scheduled for May 24 and August 16. To schedule an appointment, call 554-2233. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Screening takes approximately one hour to complete. Your child may qualify for the preschool program if they are found to be significantly behind in development and in need of special services. For more information call 554-2233.


Applications for the Child Nutrition Program
Applications will be sent home in Mail-In Enrollment packets for currently enrolled U.S.D. 261 students the first week of July. Please process the application immediately by returning the form to the Food Service Office located at Grand Lane Shopping Center, 132 Stewart, Haysville. Applications submitted by July 27, 2008 will be processed immediately, after July 27, 2008 there will be a 10 day processing period. Food Services will send out notification of eligibility letters, if approved, please submit the colored approval letter with your enrollment package for fee exemption. New students to the district may apply at the Food Service Office beginning July 2, 2008. Free/Reduced Lunch Application

Students who require special dietary needs must complete the State regulated food allergy/intolerance forms. These forms must be completed and signed by a licensed medical authority. This will insure your student(s) allergies/intolerance needs will be addressed for the 2008- 2009 school year.
