Academic Programs
Believing the strength of tradition holds the promise for the future, academic programs are the heart of USD 261 schools. Curriculum is designed to allow students to move smoothly from grade to grade and toward clear career or academic goals after graduation. The curriculum includes advanced placement classes and required classes.
All buildings have initiated the Quality Performance Accreditation process and a district-wide
improvement plan was instituted in the Fall of 1996.
In order to assure regular communication between parents, teachers, and students, formal grade reports are issued each nine weeks and mid-term. Academic performance is also monitored by standardized tests in the core subjects. Some tests are provided by the State of Kansas, others by nationally recognized testing agencies. In all cases, the results are made available to parents and are also used by school faculties to monitor school-wide performances. Parents are encouraged to communicate with teachers, counselors, and principals about the academic progress of their children.
The Haysville schools are committed to the principle of offering a first-class education to all
students. Students with special needs are served through a full continuum of direct and support programs including but not limited to: diagnostic services; occupational/physical therapy; learning disabilities program; homebound service; gifted/talented program; hearing/visually impaired programs; behavior disorders program; speech/language services; a nationally recognized early childhood program; and an alternative high school/adult learning program.
