In this workshop we will cover the theories, stages, terminology, and the application of strategies when working with ESOL students. We will also cover the types of situations tested on the ESOL Praxis test. When done, you will feel confident in your ability to work well with ESOL students and pass the Praxis Exam.

This workshop will explore how to use this powerful technology tool to engage your students and raise student achievement! You will learn how to play, download, and embed United Streaming video seg-ments as you create a multi-media project or lesson for your class.
Before the workshop, please identify a lesson or project that you would like to enhance and bring any related materials with you.
Janelle is an Instructional Coach for Haysville USD 261. She has taught at the Haysville Middle School for 13 years.
During that time she taught 6th, 7th, and 8th graders in the areas of Social Studies, Language Arts and Reading. Janelle loves technology and loved integrating it into her lessons.
Lisa is the Director of Instructional Technology for Haysville USD 261 public schools. She has a BA in Education from Arkansas State University and a ME in Educational Administration from Wichita State University.

This workshop will share lots of creative ideas on how to effectively include support staff (for example, special and regular education para-professionals) in the general education classroom. Effective models of inclusion and co-teaching will be shared. This work-shop will be divided into group time, information time, and discussion time and a variety of activities will engage participants.

The Common Core State Standards provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them. The standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers. With American students fully prepared for the future, our communities will be best posi-tioned to compete successfully in the global econo-my. The plan for our district's transition from the current standards to the Common Core Standards and the implications for state assessments will be discussed. We will focus specifically on the Reading and Math standards.
Teresa has taught self-contained students with Emotional Disabilities as well as other various grades, including K-5, 6, 8, Sophomores, Seniors, to Graduate courses. She earned her Bachelor's degree from Kansas University, her Masters of Special Education from Kansas University, and her Masters in Administration from Emporia State University. Currently, Teresa serves as Assistant Superintendent of Learning Services for Haysville Public Schools.

Participants will explore several safety issues encoun-tered by educators while using the Internet. Topics to be addressed include: Protecting Your Identity Online, Keeping Kids Safe from Cyber bullies, The Dangers of Photo and Video Sites, and Using Online Resources and References. Laptops will be available for participants who do not have a laptop to bring to class.

Data must provide the view through the windshield, not the rear view mirror. This workshop will provide multiple strategies for involving students with tracking, owning, and celebrating their achievement data. Effective stategies for utilizing classroom data centers and student data notebooks will be shared. Participants will leave with a harvest of strategies to help their students track their own success.

Chris Asmussen is a school teacher at Southeast High School and a Head Football Coach. Previously he worked in the classroom as a social studies teacher for eight years at Wichita Heights High School. He has a Bachelors of Science in Education and History from Wichita State University and is currently working on his Masters in School Leadership from Baker University. In addition to teaching history in the classroom, Chris teaches Government, Sociology, and Financial Management for eSchool in USD 259. He is a firm believer that using technology as a tool will greatly impact student learning and achievement.

We will spend our morning exploring how "specials" teachers (P.E., Music, Library, Band, Orchestra, etc.) can use the Mimio software to engage students. Even if you do not have a Mimio product yet, the software is a great instruc-tional tool! We will also reveal the steps for getting a Mimio roduct. Please bring your lap-tops for the morning session. In the afternoon, we will explore ways in addition to technology for supporting cademic achievement in the specials block.

AIMSweb is a benchmark and progress monitoring system based on direct, frequent and continuous student assessment. This workshop will cover the role AIMSweb plays in our district as well as updated, user-friendly additions to the webpage. Time will also be spent diving into reports that teachers can print after they test. We will discuss the purpose of each available report and how we can use them to drive instruction and connect to state assessments.

Class Description:
This Process Communication Model Parenting Class is designed to help you learn more about yourself and your child. Learn to speak your child's language to understand and motivate them, and give them the kind of support they need. Understand how to deal with and redirect negative behaviors into positive behaviors. Parents will receive information about their own personality dynamics and predictable conflict dynamics. PCM enhances and supports many contemporary parenting models and encourages a motivational approach for discipline and responsibility.
Jamie has 7 years experience with Process Communication and is a fully certified PCM trainer. She is a founder/owner at Next Element Consulting, LLC.
Linda has worked for USD 261 for 13 years. She is a fully certified PCM trainer and is currently the Support/Services Homeless Coordi-nator at the district level.

During this workshop, participants will create a variety of foldables that can be used as note taking tools, end of unit projects, and organization tools. Participants will also learn ways to use foldables as stand-alone tools and how they can be placed into composition books. The ideas shared in this workshop are applicable to any grade level!
Shauna Tinich has 14 years of teaching experience in the elementary and middle school settings. Currently Shauna teaches all levels of sixth grade science at Haysville West Middle School. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Central College of Iowa and a Master's of Science in Geoscience from Mississippi State University. Shauna has been trained as a trainer of Dinah Zike Foldables.
