Rex Makes AYP!

Congratulations to all of our students and staff for their had work last year. We made AYP for the third year in a row. Our students continue to work very hard on their assessments. This year will be another huge challenge as roughly 88 percent of all third through fifth grade students will have to pass the state tests to make AYP.

Mrs. Thrash Teaches Stranger Danger

This past month the Kindergarten through second grade classes were taught about Stranger Danger. Students learned that all strangers aren't bad people but rather people we don't know. The fourth and fifth grade students were taught about the dangers of tobacco and cigarette smoking. These students are also kicking off a fundraiser called math-a-thon to help St. Jude's Research Hospital.

Restoring Pride Park

On Monday, October 5th Communities In Schools and Prudential Dinning-Beard, Realtors partnered together to restore Rex Elementary Pride Park! Results showed that 48 fifth grade students, 20 Prudential Dinning-Beard, Realtors, three Communities In Schools staff, and nine businesses and individual donors helped build and restore this park!
The park is located on the East side of our school. Rex Pride Park is used as a play area during recess, outdoor teaching space, eating lunch, and provides fabulous scenery for the school. We prepared the area, planted more flowers and bushes, pulled weeds, watered the ground, distributed mulch around our plants, painted physical education games on our blacktop, and painted a mural on our building! This project has helped promote school pride, as well as offer an outdoor alternative to both students and teachers. We are very thankful to have such generous community partnerships that help support our school by donating supplies and volunteering their time! We had a great time working as a team with roadrunner effort!

Rex Elementary Receives A Special Gift

TSgt Daniel Loeb, father of two kindergarten students, presented Rex with a flag that was raised over the Ali Air Traffic Control Tower in Iraq. The flag was raised by the 407th Expeditionary Operations Support Squadron on January 29, 2009 in honor of Rex Elementary School. A beautiful certificate that detailed information about the flag was also presented to Rex. We are honored to have received this wonderful gift and thank Tsgt Loeb for the gift and for his service to our country.

Mrs. Thrash Teaches Manners

During this month's counseling lessons, students at Rex have been learning proper table and phone etiquette to use in the upcoming Holiday Season. The students learned how to set the table and how to eat properly. For telephone etiquette, old cell phones were used to practice answering the phone. The students learned how to take messages, to not yell in the phone when summoning a person, and to never give out personal information to a stranger.
